Let me paint you a very real picture of my living room right now:
A Christmas tree standing tall… completely undecorated. Surrounded by bins. Boxes. Ornaments scattered. Tinsel not even in the same ZIP code as the branches. 🎄📦
It’s chaotic. It’s messy. It’s not Instagram-worthy. And honestly? It’s the perfect backdrop for this month’s theme: Hard Truths.
The hard truth for me is this:
Even though this season is supposed to be joyful and sparkly and magical… sometimes it’s overwhelming. Sometimes it’s a lot. Sometimes I need help — and the harder truth? Sometimes I need to pay for help. 💸
Because life doesn’t pause just because it’s December. We still have work, family, travel, decorating, shopping, wrapping, cousins coming in, kids flying home, meals to prepare…And at some point, we each have to face the reality of what we can actually manage — and what we’ve taken on.
So this year, I’m reminding myself (and you):
✨ It’s okay to ask for help
✨ It’s okay to say no
✨ It’s okay to not do everything
✨ It’s okay if your home looks like mine does right now
And here’s where the hard truth leads us right into real estate…
The truth is, just like December demands honesty about our own capacity, the real estate market is demanding honesty from sellers right now. We’re seeing price reductions everywhere, longer days on market, and a noticeable shift in buyer behavior. That means sellers are having to face their own hard truths too — and some of them are not easy to swallow.
This past week, I shared a post written by Chris Smith, a keynote speaker and entrepreneur, because he said what so many agents are thinking. Homes today aren’t sitting because of bad luck. They’re sitting because they were priced based on what the seller needs, what the seller spent, or what the seller hopes… not what the market is actually willing to bear. The market doesn’t bend for emotions, memories, upgrades, or future plans. It cares about one thing: what a qualified buyer will pay today, what a lender will approve, and what an appraiser can justify. That’s the real equation.
But December isn’t only about the hard truths. It’s also about community, connection, and soaking in the little bits of holiday magic Western Pennsylvania does so well. From light-up nights to markets and parades, there are so many fun things happening this month — and I highlighted a few in this newsletter if you’re looking for something festive to enjoy. ✨🎅🏼

Pumpkin Roll:
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1tsp baking powder
- 2tsp cinnamon
- 1tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2tsp nutmeg
- 1/2tsp salt
- 3 eggs slightly beaten
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2/3 cup canned pumpkin
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional
Steps:
Preheat oven to 375°, grease 15x10 in cookie sheet; line with waxed paper, grease and flour the waxed paper.
Mix dry ingredients and set aside, beat eggs and sugar until thick and fluffy. Beat in pumpkin: stir in dry ingredients.
Pour into prepared pan, spreading evenly, spread with nuts if using those. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes or until it’s springy. Flip onto a clean towel dusted with powdered sugar or a heavy duty paper towel dusted with powdered sugar. Peel of waxed paper. Roll up like a ho ho. Place seam side down on wire rack. And cool completely. Gently unroll cake and spread the cream cheese icing on, reroll cake and refrigerate!
Cream Cheese Filling:
- 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
- 1 8 oz cream cheese( softened)
- 6 Tbs butter (softened)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Beaten together until smooth
