Franklin Township Homes and Condos for Sale

Franklin Township in Butler County, Pennsylvania, was named after Benjamin Franklin. Between the late 1760s and early 1770s, Franklin owned land in proximity to the modern-day Village of Kemblesville. Created in 1852, Franklin Township, like many other communities in Butler County, flourished and grew as a result of agriculture. Nonetheless, it was also the gradual construction and later improvement to roadways and the growth of suburban areas that made Franklin Township the great place it is today. With Pittsburgh a little over an hour away, Franklin Township is a member of the Wilmington-Newark metropolitan area. Before the state of Pennsylvania became a North American state, what is now modern-day Butler County was under the control of the New Netherlands colony in the early part of the 17th century. In the mid-17th century, it was New Sweden. Then in 1656 to 1664, it was yet again under Dutch rule, but this time the area was called New Amstel. In 1664, the British took control of the land and was a segment of the Colony of New York. It was in 1682 that the area was name Butler County. The driving force behind much of Franklin’s growth was in the form of milling, which was a very prominent industry in these parts from the 18th century until the end of the 19th century.
