Not much is known about the area now comprising modern-day Frazer Township. Before and during the colonial era, it was inhabited by various Native American groups such as Mingo, Shawnee, Lenape, and Iroquois. Adding to the multi-ethnic mix were the different groups of European fur traders, including Peter Chartier, a man of French and Shawnee lineage who later became a tribal chief and Native American advocate. Chartier was a fur trader and founder of numerous trading posts throughout the early part of the 18th century. Named after Robert S. Frazer, a Pennsylvania politician, Frazer Township was organized in 1914.
