Middlesex Township Homes and Condos for Sale

Middlesex Township in Butler County lies entirely inside the old “Last Purchase of 1784” and is the second to last piece of land purchased from the Native Americans. The land transaction was a part of the Treaty of Fort Stanwix. Even though it was one of the last to be established, it was one of the first four townships to be officially recognized before 1794. Back then, it was still a part of Allegheny County. When an Act of Legislation created Butler County on March 12, 1800, Butler and Allegheny Counties became attached, which made Middlesex one of the original 13 townships. This requirement took place because of the law that stated that the county seat couldn’t be located farther than four miles from county center. In 1803, three men were charged with the task of surveying 300 acres of land with the sole purpose of creating a county seat from it. Some historians theorize that “Middlesex” was derived from the community’s placement between other municipalities. It lies along the borders of Clinton to the east, Richland and Allegheny County to the south, Penn Township to the north, Forward to the northwest, and Adams to the west.
