Sewickley Borough is quaint residential community beautifully situated in the far northwestern region of Allegheny County. Located not far from the Sewickley Valley, this area is rich in history that dates back hundreds of years. A few significant battles and some momentous rebellions have also taken place on this very soil. Throughout the mid to late 1700s, there was the French and Indian War, the Pontiac’s Rebellion, and the American Revolution. The end of the Revolution marked the end of the Native Americans’ control over the region north of the Ohio River, which also included the area of modern-day Sewickley Borough and Sewickley Valley. Tracts of land in this area were given to veterans of the Revolutionary War for their service instead of money. At some point, most of the veterans opted to have the land surveyed in the mid-1780s, with large portions of land placed on the market. Speculators were the primary buyers. In the late 1790s, massive waves of settlers moved to Sewickley Borough. Nevertheless, the arrival of the railroad quickened the pace, with train stations at Leetsdale, Shields, Edgeworth, Quaker Valley, Roseburg, Sewickley, Glen Osborne, and Haysville. By the turn of the century, 50 commuter trains a day were running through the area, with one coming or going about every 10 to 15 minutes. The Borough of Sewickley was incorporated on July 6, 1853.
